- After the coup that overthrew the Greek government in 1967 and brought the Greek military junta of 1967–1974 to power, Giorgos Seferis went into voluntary seclusion and many of his poems were banned, including Στο περιγιάλι το κρυφό - based on the poem Αρνηση - the song, which Mikis Theodorakis had written and arranged. Στο περιγιάλι το κρυφό came to be the anthem of resistance to the regime and was sung by the enormous crowds lining the streets at Seferis' funeral in 1971.
