There are many variants of "The Turtle-Dove" found in British and American traditional music. This entry is for the version published in "The Frank C. Brown Collection of North Carolina Folklore."
The first two verses are
"Poor little turtle dove
A-sitting in the pine
Mourning for its own true love;
And why not me for nine-oh-mine,
And why not me for mine?
I'm not going to marry in the spring of the year,
I'll marry in the fall.
I'm going to marry a pretty little girl
Who wears a dollar shawl-a-shawl..
Who wears a dollar shawl." - Licensing
