"I've Got the Big River Blues was written and first recorded by The Delmore Brothers on December 6, 1933. The release credited both brothers, but only Alton Delmore is in the registries. This song is more commonly known as "Deep River Blues", which has the identical tune and lyrics of "I've Got the Big River Blues" except the words "Deep River" have been swapped out for "Big River". Doc Watson recorded "Deep River Blues" in January 1964, and registered it as his own work as well, so the song is most always misidentified as being Doc's original work.
Let it rain, let it pour, let it rain a whole lot more 'Cause I got the big river (or deep river) blues Let the rain drive right on, let the waves sweep along 'Cause I got the big river (or deep river) blues
