Based on the song Reza del Meletón, better known as Chanchullo. In 1963, Tito Puente built on the tune's introduction to compose Oye como va. When asked whether he would sue for his rightful share of the royalties, the notoriously humble Cachao is said to have shrugged and said: "You know how kids are." Besides, the second section of the song resembles the introduction to "Te enseñaré", written by Sergio Calzado and recorded by Estrellas Cubanas in 1960. The song has had many arrangements and remakes by a number of artists in various tempi. NPR included the song in its "NPR 100: The most important American musical works of the 20th century."
