During WWII the women of the U.S. were called on to replace the men in the factories and shipyards. Loeb and Evans wrote this song in 1942 to coincide with that push, coining the name "Rosie the Riveter", for the new "working" woman.. The name stuck and it was used in media campaigns throughout the country and was very important for the American war effort. The idea of Rosie originated from a similar campaign in Canada the year prior. The actual Canadian woman, Veronica Foster, was used as the 1941 poster girl in their women in the war effort, and she was called "Ronnie, the Bren Gun Girl".
[Verse One]
All the day long, whether rain or shine
She's a part of the assembly line
She's making history,
working for victory--
