- Despite what the album cover indicates, Young was actually backed by the Oscar Peterson Quartet consisting of Peterson, Barney Kessel, Ray Brown, and J.C. Heard. They recorded together in NYC and the performances were released on three albums. This album (#1) and Lester Young with The Oscar Peterson Trio - #2 were released in June 1954. The third album, The President, was released in August 1954. The tracks from all three albums were later reissued on one compilation.
