Influential folk singer and musician, playing banjo and 12-string guitar. Gibson was one of the leaders of the folk music revival of the late-1950s and early-1960s. Starting in the mid-1960s, Gibson suffered from serious drug addiction, and although he ultimately kicked the drugs and revived his musical career, he never again achieved the popularity he had enjoyed during the folk boom.
