Composer and conductor for stage musicals, film and television. Engel founded the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Workshop in 1961, which was a workshop for musical theatre composers, lyricists and librettists. Engel won six Tony Awards in the category of Best Conductor and Musical director, a category that was discontinued with the 1965 award year.
