Boswell, a popular singer, was born in Hungary to parents who were professional musicians and traveled worldwide. She, herself, was educated in Switzerland and was also an international traveler. Touring in England when World War II was declared, her family was classified as alien, and joined the Boswell Circus which was heading to South Africa. She learned English while with the Boswell Circus and her first husband was the circus owner's son. After the circus, she changed her name to Boswell. She sang in multiple languages.
